I was wondering how metalstorm would convert these rounds for stacked round firing? to my thinking the original concept of the optical fusing showed the laser light beam coming from the center of the round, something which would in my opinion would have made it harder to overcome the burnt propellant entering the optics when the round in front was fired,I believe it would have been harder to close a central opening!

When you look at the drawing of the round woof in the link you provided , it appears that they have indeed moved the laser led from a central position to one that is off center slightly, the beam is angled slightly inward as is the receiver chip, so that when the round is a set distance from a target, it recognises this as the signal to set the fusing in motion, this method would make it far easier to overcome the ingress problem, as all they would require is a cover over the round, one that rotates after being fired when it hits the rifling to reveal the optics, up until that time (firing), the holes for the optics would be covered.
