I am not a member of the ALP & voted Indepedent at the last election but I still think Tony Abbott is a very real threat to our future & a failure as Opposition Leader. Why bother to attack him? Well, for starters:
. Failure 1. Tony Abbott's Opposition is supposed to represent our alternative government - we have a right to know what his vision is for Australia & the details of policies he is proposing for our future.
. Failure 2. We have a right to expect the Opposition to work constructively in the Parliament in Australia's best interests. His media-charged scare campaign does appear to be affecting public confidence & therefore business profitability & a return to a one speed economy.
. Failure 3. Our media is having a feeding frenzy on the back of Julia Gillard's laboured performance & Abbott's relentless stunts - it is not subjecting Abbott's proposals to serious scrutiny & he is saying almost anything he likes with virtually no regard to the facts. IMO his polly porkies make minced meat of Gillard's.
. Failure 4. In the absence of updated policy documentation & Abbott's past performance I can't help but think that if Abbott became PM: social divisions would be exploited for political gain, the end of any chance of a high tech economy of the future - sionara NBN, a version of Work Choices will return, the intervention by our military into aboriginal communities will be re-invigorated, we may become involved in yet another Coalition inspired ideological overseas conflict, funding cuts will target Education & Health, Defence waste will continue, upper middle class welfare will be extended even further, pensions will again be allowed to slide & as for the baby bonus .....
Hopefully that gives you some insights into what concerns people like me who care about our country as well as our global future. IMO it's Abbott's reponsibility to dispel & to disprove those concerns.
