    You have a good point, Indonesia and Malaysia seem to have handled the spread and growth of this current wave is islamic craziness differently.

    My guess is that the few years of stagnant non-leadership of Megawati has been very harmful to indonesia as a whole.

    At least in Malaysia, regardless of how genuine the actions actually were, they seem to have taken the threat seriously act seem to have acted seriously to some extent.

    But of course Indonesia and Malaysia are very different in:
    - population, -
    - level of industrial development,
    - education, -
    influence of the Chinese community, -
    dependence on exports to and investment from the outside countries for properity
    and so not really fair to compare the two countries.

    Most aticles on the rise is the islamic menace in Indonesia tend to point out that the Indonesians were introduced to radical, militant islam during stays in Malaysia usually in exile during Surharto years.
