To drive the market down shorters have to sell into the market. Holding short positions does not drive the market down. Even shorters can run out of bullets and need to reload. I think a bounce is over due - this is not based on the fundamentals, it is based on the mechanics. ie if the market is full of maxed out shorters and sidelined investors it is primed for a bounce.
