I used to trade options but found them too unreliable. Options are good to trade different strategies, spreads and strangles and such.
But for pure trading I find them too slow to get into.
Just getting set takes too long. I needed to call broker then place my bid/ask. In the meantime the shareprice moves and I would have to adjust.
I just don't like operating with a market maker spread.
Plus time is against you. With CFD's it's not

With CFD's the spread is the same as the underlying market. It's just like buying/selling the regular shares in the physical market except you pay 5-10% of the price. It can happen that you get a margin call, but it is extremely unlikely. If I would short AMP the shareprice would have to jump to $25 for me to get a margin call, for example. I keep my positions to a small percentage of my trading account.
The spread in Aussie stocks is the same as underlying market. Overseas stocks they are a bit wider. Like stocks in Sweden have a wide spread.
They also have market depth for UK stocks. I think most of them have the same spread as the underlying market.

CFD's is good since it's so fast to get set in a trade.
I trade with CMC, www.cmcgroup.com.au, and find them good. Their software is very good, they have live data, good charts, market depth, and heaps of tradeable instruments.
You can also trade indicies, commodities (they have Palladium, but not nickel and copper and such, but they do have Soybeans and wheat and such), gold/silver, currencies, swaps, treasuries with the software.
Their brokerage fee is $20/trade up to $10k and then 1% above that. So quite cheap. They used to be free though, those were lovely times.
I think they are the cheapest on the market.
I don't know much about other CFD providers. IG is out there but they are more expensive.
You can open a demo account with CMC and try it out

I am typing this a bit in a rush, need to go to Uni, have an exam. If you have other questions then just ask again, I will have more time tonight.

    Cheers
