    Guys,

I will put up a more detailed post either tonight or tomorrow. Just got back into work yesterday.

Of the top of my head the age of Prominent Hill is 1580 million years old. In geological terms this is Paleoproterozoic in age.

The importance of this age is that it is formed around the same time as Olympic Dam. Meaning that there was an event causing significant copper and gold mineralisation within the Gawler Craton during the Paleoproterozoic era.

So for IOCG deposits (OD and PH) in the craton you need to be looking for the right age rocks.

It is basically a constraint that can be used to help better define geological targets. I.e. you don't want to be looking at Archean age rocks as they are too old.

This constraint is obviously location specific. In South Australia if you are looking for IOCG deposits you want to target the Paleoproterozoic aged rocks. In another country you may be targeting completely different age rocks.

So this is also not too say there may be nothing in Archean aged rocks in the Gawler Craton. Challenger is a gold deposit (Can't remember the style) hosted in Archean rocks and is found east of Prominent Hill.

It really just depends on what you are looking for.

Does that answer your question hotcopper42? I will write up some more detailed stuff on Oz tenements and their prospectivity later.

    Cheers
