good morning Yak. out of all the various experts on race religion & other topics irrelevant to an investment/trading forum, you are the only left I haven't put on ignore. even in one or two cases where I tend to share their views. one of them because I declared him to be a stirrer. I told him that while I respect & in fact share most of his views, I've got to put him on ignore because he cannot ever let sleeping dogs lie.

your debate on the glories or otherwise of war, reveals a one-eyed mentality that cannot or will not listen to another person's arguments.

whilst I would refrain from making any derogatory comments about the men who lost their lives at Gallipoli, there is a case to be made for the man who stood up & said: f.... you pom bastards, if you want to get your balls shot off why don't you go in there yourself! us aussies may not be very bright, but we are not total idiots either. a suicide mission without rhyme or reason, what dickhead would think that one up?

or what about those who did make it over the top & ended up shooting, clubbing or bayonetting turks? in war it's killed or get killed, the glory is only an afterthought.

both the last preceding paragraphs are based on fictitious assumptions, but either way I would appreciate your comments.

P.S. the turks were not exactly threatening to invade australia, nor did they have WMD's in those days. as for the subsequent carve-up of the Ottoman empire, look at all the weird unstable dictatorships it's brought about! if Lawrence was alive today, he'd turn in his grave.

here's an interesting afterthought: didn't they know about oil in the early 1900's? there's no mention of it when Feisal (alec guinness) marches triumphantly into damascus, peter o'toole by his side (or something like that)
