You make some good points. I wouldn't rely on Cosgrove to solve any of your Qantas problems. Sure he was talked up by the media for his Timor leadership, but any serving Senior Army Officer, put in his position during the East timor crisis in 1999 - 2000 could have done as good or if not better job than Cosgrove.
When he was at the helm running the ADF, the Army in particular still had many internal problems with the justice system, personnel administration and logistics issues that he couldn't solve or whicj he overlooked.
