    just pondering -

if this was Hockey, Abbott, Turnbull, Pyne, or even a back-bench run-of the mill LIBERAL MP - all hell would now be let loose!

There'd be a Parliamentary enquiry already being prepared - legal advice sought - Windsor, Oakshott, Brown, Wilkie, Bandt, Katter, and yes, even little Sarah H-Y would be lined up behind indignant PM Gillard and Foaming at the Mouth with sheer delight Swan all parading indignation and venom at some hastily convened Press Conference in time for the very next 6pm news grab - demanding these allegations be investigated IMMEDIATELY - and their pals at the ABC would have been right there with big broad smiles supporting the showers of indignation and self-righteousness.

As you rightly point out, what moral compass and example does this convenient selectiveness set for the upcoming younger generations.

Such refusal to face facts and demand further details as to getting to the truth or otherwise of what did in fact happen is, of itself, a variety of prostitution. Politcal
prostitution - whereby the Party and oneself must survive at all and any cost, by means of deliberate obfuscation and looking the other way. A hush up - a cover up - excused that this is "too old to bother with" - and no accountability - what sort of message does this send our young?

Just what sort of personal standards ARE potential political candidates expected to meet when they are nominated for pre-selection, and later win their seat?
Are these standards set down officially, in writing, as a matter of course, that MP's have to comply? Or is alleged not to comply, to then be obliged to face independent investigation, not by one's peers, but by an independent source. (The Electoral Commission?)

It's the public purse which pays them - surely we, the public, are therefore entitled to require that any such srious allegations are investigated by the appropriate independent bodies, and not have to take the heavily biased and self-interested opinion of a PM who is reliant on said Member for his/her political survival?

But no - as some of the Left here tell us - we should forget this - as it happened a "long time ago."

With these decreasing moral and ethical standards, no wonder the world's descending into mess.

    It's outrageous!

Why the heck WAS Howard voted out??? Because people are so shallow these days - they want change just for the sake of change??? A new young wife to replace the older less "sexy" one?

For that was the start of this rot setting in. Voting out Howard - because they thought "he'd been there too long".
