The EBA's the staff work under have all been previously agreed to by previous management. Previous management even suggested certain levels and systems of pay which the staff agreed to.
To suggest that in 2007 when all staff had only ever received 3% pay rises since 2000, cpi was running at 5%+, houses doubled, Geoff Dixon received a $22million dollar golden parachute and the workers were greedy when they asked for 5% ?
Today you have a situation where the new management have come in and told everyone they're overpaid and they will be decimated through the destruction of Qantas. Is that a good industrial strategy ? Do aircraft pilots and engineers get paid peanuts in Singapore, Hong Kong, Europe ? (the answer is no by the way)
You can hardly blame the staff who have only ever received very mild increases in pay in the last 10 years, to suggest otherwise is a lie. A pilot makes a mistake, lives are lost. An engineer makes a mistake, lives are lost. Management make a mistake, $22million bonuses are handed out.
Let's not even mention the freight cartel that the CEO and his ilk had 'no idea' about and Qantas were consequently fined hundreds of million of dollars for.
