Leunig was a concientous objector during Vietnam, but I don't think his article was about people refusing to fight if invaded. I took it to mean that more effort should be made to form links and understanding with other nations, and accepting that all people and all nations have aspirations that have to be recognised. I don't believe in communism, and socialism as practiced in Australia makes me choke a bit, but many people in the world are not getting their fair share, whilst many are taking more than theirs, and until we recognise and address this problem we will have to rely on soldiers to defend us.
