On several occasions I have read reference to patients being treated with stem cells. Just this week a work collegue of a family member who has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma is currently having his stem cells harvested to be used in treatment.

Has this practice been passed by the FDA etc., previously and where does Mesoblast fit in? Isn't this one of the procedures they are aiming aiming to do?

Multiple myeloma is a type of cancer. Cancer is a group of many related diseases. Myeloma is a cancer that starts in plasma cells, a type of white blood cell. It's the most common type of plasma cell cancer.
