    Most pits are backfilled with either waste rock or tailings making deepening of them very tricky/expensive + old stopes have the ability to swallow trucks whole if not managed. ask anyone who has worked at the bottom of pit at Wiluna - bridged (historic) stopes can give way leaving massive voids
