I forgot to also add before that the real horror story is the fact that the builder didn't look further into such a significant asset, which is so typical.
Free will - you can have an SMSF and still pay commissions, just like you don't have to have an SMSF and not pay commissions. SMSF's should be started and run for specific and valid reasons, not to cut one's nose off to spite their face, as I've heard some people have done, but I expect no-one on HC, who are mainly active and interested investors.
