Webzone, one thing bothered me about your post:

The same could be said about you, maybe you are AJ, the man himself in incognito, and that's why you don't get it.

What other posters have tried to express in various ways is that AJ's salary is not relevant for Qantas economics but it sends a wrong message such as: "We have to tighten the belt to keep this company viable. Well, actually, you guys have, I am receiving a big fat bonus because I have done an awesome job".

I am not a socialist or a communist, but I have a leadership position in my job. And when you want to get positive results from your subordinates/employees you MUST start by giving the example. That is why, in my opinion, AJ's 5 million are a bigger strike to Qantas employee loyalty and to the company itself than a hypothetical 500 million A$ budget deficit.
