If you consider that the A$ has appreciated 25-30% over the recent past, that's put a real limit on what oz shares are worth to o/s investors, so even if the share price was constant over the last few years it's actually gone up by 25-30% to those buying from o/s. Inversely, o/s investors buying shares from the US or UK would be buying them at a discount as their currencies have depreciated relative to their own currency.
Talk of it being due to political factors is either naive or intentionally mischievous.
