Skint, the reason that I referred to the impact of the journal is because the journal that the research goes into often reflects the robustness and novelty of the research.
I have not read the paper in detail but it appears that the majority of what is descried is correlative. i.e. there is no direct evidence provided that that increase in GSK3-beta phosphorylation by PBT2 is the mode of action of this compound in restoring cognition in mice. Furthermore, although GSK3-beta has been implicated in AD this is far from proven to be the case. It's all good stuff but as I said, I'm surprised it's moved the sp.
In addition, I don't see anything here about growing new neurons.
