This is something I wasn't aware of.

The last I heard was that they were "encouraged" with microneedle developments but with so much of what they have on at the moment, they were keeping this research at the lower end of the scale.

So what you're saying is that they must be "dismissive" of it now?

If this is indeed correct and they no longer have any "connections with regards to microneedles", sounds to me like 3M might have dumped them.
