Replacing her with Rudd would be political suicide for the ALP. Rudd is an already failed Prime Minister, and the attack from the opposition would be relentless and unforgiving.
And the Newspoll a few weeks ago (which has worsened since for Labor), shows a 9.1% swing against the last election. Remember that 40 Labor seats are held by less than 9% - and 9 of those are Cabinet Ministers, 2 Assistant Ministers, the Cabinet Secretary, and 3 Parliamentary Secretaries. That's 16 from Labors front line. A uniform swing of -9% would see 30 - 40 seats lost. So how do you confidently pick a new leader now when most of the cabinet are weak in their own seats? And Rudd is one of them.
