We went to the Grampians with friends on Thursday last week to view the wildflowers, and let me say we were not disappointed. Saw so many species of plants I've never seen before, or if I had, only by way of books. The 'egg and bacon' and of these, there are about a dozen or so species, are out in force at the moment, as are all the alpine thryptomene. Well worth a visit, although if you wait a week, the native flower show will also be on display at Halls Gap. The roads are closed to the 'Wonderland', but you can walk to some of the tracks. They had extremely high rainfall last January and that has caused massive subsidance.
Anyway, here are just a few of the photos I took:
Leafless Bitter-pea
Love Creeper
Pink Heath
White Throated Tree Creeper
Common Bearded Heath
Holly Leafed Grevillea

Alpine Myrtle
Can't wait to go back in a month or so and see more of the orchids and other flowers out. We managed to photograph about 7 orchid species including the leopard orchid. Would love to find a blue scented sun orchid. Maybe next time.
