Tangrams....totally agree with you about the chrissy stuff and our beautiful natives....
good on you for raising the issue....
makes more sense to have gorgeous australian natives as a celebration symbol in our hot summer xmas ...versus the white xmas pine trees...we normally associate with a European white , cold xmas period....

may I remind you I have kangaroo paw natives growing in one of my gardens....the plain pink variety...
I recently purchased the green/red variety...for the 'superb blue wren project' I have embarked on....

ps I own two houses, next to each other...in a regional city, absolute inner city area....the original was built in 1918... a californian bungalow....the majority of the garden is still in its original condition, still grows, retains the original plants from that era...

it was held by the original owners from 1918 until around 1990, then a young family until 2000, and finally myself....
luckily for me...all original owners kept the plants alive.... so we have plants dating back amost 100 years...still there still growing strong....

the roses are the pride of the garden (I have yet to research the exact name) are a deep red, with a stunning scent.,,, they flower almost all year...

the Japanese Maple died....2 years ago....it survived for over 90 years....but the crippling drought in that area for over 15 years...together with water restrictons imposed by the local councils....and a brief stint with a tenant in charge put paid to that...

I find it amazing....since the recent drought broke....
I am constantly amazed at the variety of bulbs, plants that are suddenly appearing in that garden....apparently out of nowhere......

    history repeating itself it seems....

ps...my elderly neighbours house.... together with my old house...is apparently the haven.....for this concophony of bird life....
my new home, is simply a subdivision of the original corner block....

oh my god,,,,,Karma at its very best ....I had no idea...when I went with the gut feeling....of retaining history....ie the Calafornian Bungalow property...that I would end up with such a smorgasboard of plant, bird and animal life....to suppport and restore....
    how lucky am I....?
