    voltaire,

We are not living in a "normal" circumstance. Gillard has been ineffective in countering the scaremongering from Tony Abbott. This had happened almost right from the beginning. You would know I have been a strong supporter of Labor, and for me to canvas a change back to Rudd shows the degree and extent of my concern. I am not advocating a change to another leader. I am advocating a switch back to Rudd. In my opinion, Rudd handled his loss of the prime ministership very well, and I believe if given another chance he will well against Abbott.

    You said:

"So it is either 12 months to prove credentials or a last gasp/ last minute approach."

A last minute approach will not work, it has to happen soon. A last minute approach will be seen as what it is: panic. To change soon may also be seen as panic, but Rudd will have close to two years to correct that perception.

    You also said:

"And economic circumstances rule, and no government or leader has any control over what is about to happen."

It is not about what is about to happen in the economy. It is about the public's perception of a government's competency in handling the economy that can play a pivitol role in influencing voting intentions.

    You also said:

"Cycles have it all mapped out and can't be denied."

I don't read much of the postings in the XJO threads. I did notice that you talked about cycles; I don't believe cycles are inevitable, in particular, political cycles.

There are a few ministers in the current Labor government who should vacate their positions, as in my view they had failed miserably to carry to the public the messages of the government.
