It most likely originates from the Banjarese people in Kalimantan who possibly predate the Balinese or at least share some common ancestry, or it may have derived even earlier from Malay "bandar" meaning city, or "banjir" meaning flood as the Banjarese historicaly live generally in low lying coastal areas and old river deltas.
