Vanstone under her social security portfolio had a policy that for education assistance any loan you took was counted as income and any loan repayed was also income. So if you borrowed $10,000 and payed it back you were counted as have earned $20,000. What a joke. I know this personally from a family member and I got involved and after consulting the Labor party and others the advice was to lie because it was a nonsense.
If you paid board or rent based on what you expected to receive then that was income and would make you ineligible but if you claimed you would live in the gutter then you could gain assistance.
