    beneficial news.....

GAURNET the top advisor to federal government ,GAS is uneconomic..

HOW many boxes does gas tick as a replacement for baseload power in the La Trobe Valley? IMO VERY FEW.

    page 7.

"the truth is that Australia holds just 2.4% of the worlds natural gas resources representing a LITTLE MORE THAN ONE YEAR OF WORLD GAS CONSUMPTION, yet Australia aspires to be the second largest exporter on LNG in the world"

the thought of gas as a baseload power in Victoria Will not happen, just getting ready for carbon capture in 2015 onwards will not be sufficient to gain access to the 2.2 billion dollars available to LYP.

So how will LYP reduce its carbon emissions???

while the greens keep calling to stop the use of lignite and replace it with what economic alternative > COLDRY but they do not know it will happen..as power operators are cleaning up the business as usual.

Legally, HRL might also find itself in breach of carbon pollution standards. The EPA noted that HRL’s CO2 emissions would be at a rate of 0.8 tonnes per megawatt-hour. This means it only just meets the standard set by the Victorian government last year and, of the three options floated by the federal government in its Emissions Performance Standard discussion paper, HRL just scrapes through on the weakest option presented. There may also be legal implications for HRL’s Chinese electrical procurement contract, which was to supply 600MW worth of power plant equipment.

the emissions performance standard discussion paper LINK from this article well worth reading and further researching..

AND TED BAILLIEU a keen Geelong supporter is " HELL BENT ON KEEPING Victoria chained to a brown coal future"
perhaps he should meet with TINCOM..and ALCOA and endorse COLDRY.
