Yes the well does have a cap but its more to stop you falling in than stop anything coming out, No pressure buildup, they have not perforated the well casing to expose the production formations (to my knowledge).

At the moment its just a great big cement and steel cylinder going down into the earth passing through a couple of kilometres of gas bearing sand (tee hee).

Once they have checked the integrity of the casing (need a good seal between the steel casing and the rock formations, That gap between the steel casing and the rock formations is filled with cement so their is no communication between upper and lower parts of the well )then they blow a heap of holes (perforate) through the steel and cement casing into the surrounding rock formations, then we see what comes back.

In this case not much is expected to come back so they will block off the well just below the section we want to frac and then just pump many truck loads of sand and water into the well which will force out through those perforations and smash the bejeezus out of the rocks hopefully releasing all those sweet hydrocarbons.

So effectively we are going to have two big science experiments going on here.

1. Air drill the horizontal leg into the ellenburger in the hopes of not damaging the formation and finding lots of natural fractures, cant frac the ellenburger with water as it will just turn to mud.

2. Water/gel frac the canyon sands, sort of a 3 part question first, will it frac at all, second, will it frac vertical or just sort of pancake out and not be very productive third, will we hit a water leg and just stuff the well completely.

Plenty of risks to overcome here fella's BUT it is a company making asset if it slides our way
