Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt has used a keynote address to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month to single Australia out for praise, saying the nation is "leading the world" in underlying the importance of fibre.
Schmidt said the National Broadband Network was a "wonderful" initiative and singled out Prime Minister Julia Gillard for special praise. The Mobile World Congress is the biggest and most important telecommunications event on the planet.
