TRC boss lauds Eagle Ford
Her advice during talk at energy convention in S.A. is ‘drill, baby, drill.'

Texas Railroad Commission Chairwoman Elizabeth Ames Jones extolled the economic benefits of drilling in the Eagle Ford shale Wednesday, saying its production is adding significantly to state coffers....In November, $1.1 billion will be added to the fund, which is generated mostly by taxes on oil and gas production, she said....Jones, who often has said she's a supporter of the state's oil and gas industry, called for the federal government to be hands-off on drilling restrictions.

“I dare those people in the federal government to put the brakes on the dream of energy security delivered to Americans, by Americans, on American shores....Jones ended her talk with rousing call to the industry: “Keep on drilling. Drill everywhere. Drill now. Drill, baby, drill.”

Enthusiasm over the Eagle Ford is equally great at Houston-based Marathon Oil Corp.

“We think the premier play in the unconventional universe is the Eagle Ford,” said Dave Roberts Jr., Marathon's executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Marathon expects to produce 13,000 barrels of oil or its equivalent by year's end, a total the company believes will soar to 100,000 barrels by 2016....

There are signs that other reservoirs besides the Eagle Ford shale are productive.

Bill Deupree, CEO of Escondido Resources LLC, said his company has drilled in the Olmos and Escondido reservoirs, which lie at more shallow depths than the Eagle Ford.

“We're applying new technology to old, established areas,” Deupree said, with good results. “Economics of horizontal drilling in the Escondido and Olmos are excellent, even in a low-gas-price environment,” he said.

As for the Eagle Ford, “overall, our results have been good, but results in the Escondido and Olmos have been better.”
