Boofy
Re your post which included;
"... the Coalition's position hasn't changed in a decade = detention ..." ... "... the shock jocks are all over it ..."
Well Boofy, some of us have objected for more than a decade to the way our Govts. have treated PEOPLE displaced by wars we are waging in their countries. We think those policies were unethical, inhumane & WRONG!
Increasingly people like Malcolm Fraser are speaking out publicly against offshore processing & mandatory detention in hell holes.
I have always considered offshore processing a rotten way to treat people already traumatised by events including but not limited to:
. Sri Lanka's genocidal attacks on surviving Tamil Tigers in the latter days of that civil war.
. People escaping the tyranny of countries such as Iran, Libya, Somalia, Burma & China.
. People who face death by returning to countries ravaged by wars we support.
Australia is in a privileged position but has repeatedly disgraced & demeaned itself by treating refugees so poorly. The death knell for offshore processing cannot come too soon for people like me who are thoroughly sick & tired of the divisive, xeonophobic political nonsense that has raged for so long.
As for your shock jocks; just because they rave, rant & scream regurgitated populist bile does not make what they say correct or credible.
