I think the reason for the recent rally is that the markets had priced in a full blown world recession. As news comes out that it may be avoidable (albeit just) people are buying stocks that are showing value. With major banks and miners trading on single figure PE's and making more money than ever before, one can't help themselves. With all negative news priced in, anything positive is a catalyst. The world looks to add another billion people by 2025, so whilst the world is growing I think things will be alright.
