@alacrity sounds a little gung-ho of you. Without broker reports how do you know when to actually enter the market?

I was same as you previous to this whole COH episode and went in on what I personally felt was good value. It then transpired that the price dropped further than my original buy. Had I listened to broker reports or some technical analysis, I would have had a better idea of the downward trend and bought in at a lower price.

As @lgmqy2000 intimated in an earlier post, you need technical or other skills to pick low points, and your general sense to pick the actual stock or industry. To operate without any idea how the wider market is currently thinking is like driving with blinkers on.
