That just sounds like another round of regurgitated speculation about the Labour leadership which I cannot let go un-challenged.
Julia Gillard's performance in her first year as PM has certainly disappointed me. She has absolutely botched communication with mainstream Australians. As a result people have largely stopped listening to her & have therefore not acknowledged her commitment to Australia & her achievements, of which there are many & some biggies at that.
Those achievements include:
. The ALP gained more than 50% of the 2 Party preferred vote at the 2010 election. . Gillard persuaded 3 of the independent candidates to support the ALP as a minority government, preventing Tony Abbott from becoming PM. . After 12 months in office her minority government has still not lost a vote of no-confidence in the HoF. . Work Choices was repealed. . Despite the massive campaign waged against her Gillard's Govt. has successfully negotiated the Carbon Tax / ETS through the Lower House & almost certainly through the Senate. . Enabling Australia to evade the worst impact of the GFC despite the disruption & havoc caused by Abbott. . The NBN is underway despite the massive capmaign of negativity & havoc led by Abbott against it. . Enormous federal relief was provided to states affected by major natural disasters. . Taxpayers & business have enjoyed tax cuts & will soon receive support as compensation from the impact of the CT / ETS. . Our education sytems have experienced a massive injection of desperately needed resources. . Ibid for our hospitals. . Much greater emphasis has been given to addressing Australia's water security issues, the state of our river systems & industries which depend on them. . In future refugees will be processed on the mainland, ending offshore processing. . Established a budgetry approach that will return the budget to surplus asap, including the new MRRT. . Ending the worst abuses of cattle slaughter in Indonesia.
As for Gillards' prime opponent, Abbott's major achievements include: . The creation of a climate of uncertainty & crisis throughout the community. . Creating divisions throughout the community. . Has won the hearts & minds of media shock jocks & their audiences. . Made an artform out of media stunts & 3 word slogans. . Ensured the detail of government initiatives has been confused & misunderstood. . Insulting & misrepresenting the policies & achievements of regional nations including China, Malaysia & Indonesia. . Trashing parliamentary processes & making a mockery of Question Time. . Publicly demonised & denigrated Gillard. . Abbott's actions have ensured that refugees will now be processed on the mainland. . Won the 2011 Ernie Award for sexism in politics. . Supporting Andrew Bolt's call for freedom of speech.
