Much of the inland eastern states can be drought proofed with a range of water systems and processes.
PNG are keen to pipe gas from their highlands right into the middle of Australia. We have an extensive pipeline grid for gas so why not consider such for water?
We also have plenty of water but it is in the wrong place so we don't need to tow an iceberg up from Antarctica or pump saltwater inland nor alter the landscape and climate with the construction of a mountain range.
When I was up in the country recently I had this eerie feeling that we may be in the process of a major national calamity. It just felt different to previous dry spells.
