Mike...the only system for a nursing home (here in adelaide)that I know was a user pays private system (rated thru a system called A-Cat) that works out the degree of monetary assistance an elderly (aus-pensioner) person receives, in combination with their own (prescribed) payment for the cost of the nursing home... ie both pay as was the case with my mother's private care
so i say, is there any other way than paying your share ?- not that I know of.. theres no free lunch even in a nursing home later in life...
so what sought of socialist system would mean someone has to sell a private house for such means to provide a nursing home facility or space (see the original posted-article)... its ridiculous to draw some parallel to the affordability of a house for a young person to have the ability to buy...with a 90 year olds private house, when he has the means to pay for private care..
instead of seeking pensioner scape goats, the real focus should be placed on a REstate industry that has been allowed to run amok unchecked for years with unscrupulous practices creating the problem/s you quote... this being just one (but probably the key) of the reasons why Aussie RE prices are the most expensive in the English speaking world....
