Re your comment; "... 1,194 people shouldn't suffer restriction because of 6 people. ..."
In a TV report Tim Costello quoted data showing that Australians are at the top of the pokie gambling tree - by a long way. Australia has 20% of the world's poker machines but only 3% of its people! We spend more on pokies than we do on petrol, clothes or would you believe, alcohol!
According to the BBC report below ~40% of Australians play poker machines [ie. not 1200 out of every 1200] & 2% have a major problem [as do our governments through reliance on pokie revenue].
IMO the activities of most clubs & pubs contribute positively to the community. However, we should also acknowledge issues associated with gambling: . Most people lose, some badly. . Loan sharks prey on the vulnerable. . Crime & violence.
When the community costs of some of these are factored in the gloss of pokies in clubs & pubs becomes somewhat tarnished.
