It is very relevant and has got to do with this issue.
Joyce has been saying his Australian wages are too high, a major reason he wants to shift to Asia. Qantas has been saying their employees wages, compared to Asians' are too high. Why isn't the same argument applied to the pay of Qantas CEO ?

Joyce is asking his workers to take lower wages rises because the company could not afford to pay the highetr wage claims. Why has the Qantas Board given Joyce a big pay rise, and on the othe hand saying wages are already too high when compared to asians' ?
The burden of pain should be shared by all, those at the top and at the bottom.
