Joyce had no reason to ground all flights from Saturday. There was no industrial action taking place over this weekend, so all flights could of continued as normal.
Joyce gave no warning to passengers so they had no chance of making alternative arrangements.
This shows the contempt and little value he places on Qantas customers.
Even if he thought there was merit in grounding all aircraft, why would you do it in such a way to alienate as many of your customers as possible.
Before Qantas was not blamed for any of the delays caused by industrial action.
Now Qantas is seen by many as being totally responsible for leaving passengers stranded without warning.
I had relatives in Perth who had already checked bags and were waiting to board for a flight to Melbourne, only to be told later about the grounding of all flights.
They are regular flyers with Qantas, but this episode by Joyce has caused them to say that they will never ever fly Qantas again.
Thank you Joyce for winning the P.. competition and stuffing up Qantas for all us shareholders.
Joyce purposely stranded Qantas passengers and then gave away my money.
"...Fully boarded flights were asked to disembark and collect their luggage from the carousels as the QANTAS CEO announced that the entire fleet was grounded indefinitely..."
"...QANTAS has assured passengers that they will refund tickets to any customers who wish to cancel their airfares and that they will reimburse daily expenses of up to $350 per day per person for passengers stranded away from home..."
If Joyce wanted to create a budget long haul airline, then create one, DO NOT TRY AND DRAG QANTAS DOWN TO A BUDGET AIRLINE LEVEL, it is not a budget airline.
Qantas was a brand that projected a quality service, after Joyce has finished it will be called "outback paddock airlines".
Joyce could of resolved this without any industrial action by the unions or himself. He has never had any desire to achieve a resolution, it has always been about getting his own way regardless of the damage he does to Qantas along the way.
Share price has already been halved under Joyce, so what is it going to be on Monday?
TWU national secretary Tony Sheldon said Qantas employees had hoped today's stopwork would be to ratify the company's promise of job security under the next enterprise bargaining agreement.
"Regrettably, after a week of untruths and subterfuge by the company, the meetings will instead consider a wholly inadequate offer and a further round of stoppages," Mr Sheldon said last night.
trashcansinatra engineers put their name on the work sheet and if there is a problem, they are the ones that will be charged with manslaughter.
So in answer to your question the members the unions represent do "take responsibility for failures in maintenance standards that result in death or injury or financial damage."
So the engineers have a serious vested interest in ensuring that safety standards are not compromised by increasing the potential risks through the guise of work efficiencies.
If what you do can be the difference between life an death for hundreds of people, wouldn't you want to make sure that you had every opportunity to ensure that you were able to do your job to a very high standard.
