overpaid baggage handlers, page-78

Im not sure from the posts what a baggage handler actually gets paid,,35-38 38 plus benefits to 85K...whatever, they are not the best at thier jobs in my experience....

I try to avoid flying QANTAS whenever I can becasue they are always so expensive compared to other international carriers, whenever I have flow them Ive found thier staff to be very unhelpful and my bags oversized bags (surf Boards) have taken over one hour to be delivered, and cabin staff well, got to be the up there with the worst service staff I have ever encountered,,,with the exception of vodaphone...

I used to think their ability to charge such insane pemiums over thier compeditors on international flights was becasue we are all brainwashed that they have never had an accident,,but Ive flow other airlines who have operated for 20 plus years and I feel just as safe, looked after.

I often think about the brand when at airports and wonder how its brand has lasted so long on overprice poor service tickets..........but always thought alot of the premium was to pay over an above what most others workers doing the same job at other international airports were being paid

As for aussie worker trying to make me feel like somehow i will get poorer, less safe service from Thai engineers or thai cabin crews,,,,,,,I think they better wake up, the competition is killing them...

I fly Thai all the time, their tickets are way cheaper, service is better, I get looked after if i have a question and when i get to my desitination (appart from Italy) ,my bags are there no problem in a reasonable timeframe unlike previous problems with Qantas and Syndey Airport...


Personally I think they should go back to work immediatley and stop thinking they are irreplaceable, even if they are getting 38 K before any overtime, shift inconvenince allowances or whatever,,,,I think thats a fair wage for the job in our country,,there are multi million dollar bag sorters,,,they are not manually carrying the bag from checkin to the plane cargo hold...yes cost of living is rising but thats apples,,,,,,get another job if you need more to satisfy your wants......stop kidding yourself..........

I know Gillard has changed the IR laws to Fair Work Australia, I not sure if the previous laws would have avoided the grounding situation but it doesnt matter,,lets see if the new law can resolve the no Fly QANTAS situation quickly beacasue their will be very negative flow on effects to the toursim industry and small business already suffering from weak consumer confidence and a very strong dolllar....

To be fair though, Al Italia was worse than Qantas in my experiences, and the company and unions got into a fight there, it hemoraged and despite new pay cuts deals being proposed, the company effectivley folded and no one had jobs in the end.............It all started with unions wanting huge money for unskilled workers which was out of whack with the rest of the world.......
