to use your example, I used to carry all my spare parts around in the boot of my Ford car. The weight of the spares cost me money in extra fuel when I drove around.
So I sold the spares to a Ford dealer and now when I break down the Ford dealer has the spares and the Ford dealer fixes my car.
Now I know we are just talking aircraft here but I don't think it's rocket science to understand what I just said.
Put it another way. Do you walk into the Dentist with all the required equipment, Novocaine, filing material? No you outsource the maintenance of your teeth to the Dentist.
