when people say defensive stocks they mean the business (earnings) not the chart.certain business's are defensive (IVC) and i would love nothing more for afew defensive companies to have huge swings on a chart, it only benefits me more to buy them cheaper.
So to sum it up, business's can be defensive it's people's stomachs and emotions that get the better of them.
