I think traders on the whole will prefer less frequent updates... the more "surprising" the good updates are, the more spectacular the SP jump and the over-buying as people try to get in as it goes up.
Investors on the whole will probably prefer more frequent updates even if that takes the surprise-jump element out of the equation, because they believe in the ultimate goals of the company.
It's I think to some extent an argument between slow-stable-eventual and jumpy-exciting movement. Give me the regular news any day; patience can be a strain when we are exciting, but in the long run having the SP move steady is better.
Now going back to watching my Gold-kettle not quite boil yet :)
