Interesting article on bigger homes and smaller households meaning more empty bedrooms which will start to get rented out when things get tough increasing the housing surplus and putting even more downward pressure on prices.
Average household size is now 2.6 people but the average number of bedrooms is 3.1. More than 75% of Australian households have one or more spare bedrooms and only 3 per cent of households don't have enough bedrooms. The latter statistic surprised me as I assumed there were more of us - we have 5 of us in a 3 bedroom house and 7 when the oldies visit.
