COMEX METALS... spot gold is currently $1681.30 oz. In half day trading, the Dec gold contract fell $10.20 to $1685.70 oz, while the Feb contract lost $10.30 to $1688.50 oz, Dec silver lost 87c to $31.014 oz. Jan platinum is down $25.20 to $1533.70 oz and Dec copper shed 95c to 326.8c lb.

LONDON METAL EXCHANGE... official cash ask prices were: copper $7196.50 tonne (pre $7271.50), tin $20,325 (pre $20,550), lead $1975 (pre $1982.50), zinc $1880.50 (pre $1898), aluminium $1988 (pre $2002.50 1992.50) and nickel $17,095(pre $17,205).

The 3-month ask prices were copper $7230 (pre $7296), tin $20,110 (pre $20,505), lead $1995.50 (pre $2005), zinc $1882.50(pre $1899), aluminium $2002 (pre $2024.50) and nickel $17,100 (pre $17,220).



OIL... Jan crude settled 60c higher at $96.77 a barrel, with a high of $97.55 and a low of $94.99. February is 54c ahead at $96.91 and low $95.16 barrel. Brent ICE for Jan fell $1.38 to $106.45 barrel with a high of $107.79 and a low of $105.85 barrel.

Reuters CRB index fell 1.28 to 305.45

US DOLLAR... is changing hands at 77.74 yen (pre 77.36), against the euro it is $US1.3232 (pre 1.3337) against sterling $US1.5434 (pre 1.5518) and against the Swiss franc $US1.0731 (pre 1.0865).





AUSTRALIAN DOLLAR... is changing hands at US96.99c compared with US97.35 on yesterday's close. Offshore the Aussie posted a high of US97.36c and low of US96.84c. Against the yen it is at 75.39(pre 74.95) at 73.29 euro cents (pre 72.65) and 62.82 British pence (pre 62.43).
