There were no gases to combine to cause the big bang. Conventual theory shows the "big bang" emanating from a "singularity" similar to that at the centre of a black hole. Unfortunately physics is unable to describe the inner workings of a black hole due to the intense gravity and minute scale (sub-atomic).
The "big bang" singularity is thought to have formed from quantum fluctuations in an energy imbalance.
Perhaps God lives a the centre of a black hole?
String theory I think has multiple parallel universes or "branes" side by side similar to the slices of a loaf a bread. The branes are separate but do move, and it is thought that a "big bang" is the reaction of two adjacent branes touching.
