yes it is scary, 38900 at peak in 1989 to under 9000 now.
If we apply the same percentage decline on the DOW, we get 14000 to 3500, so Martis isn't as insane as some people would like to believe afterall.
Although I think the US is in much stronger position than Japan, there is no country left backstopping the US if it falls over. So the fall would be much more faster than 20 years, perhaps 2 or 3 years would suffice.
