"Australians could lead the way in tin mining"
"As summarised by ITRI, Consolidated Tin Mines (CSD), with its Heberton project south of Cairns, has 58,000 tonnes of contained tin and could be mining by late 2013 at the rate of 5000 tonnes a year. Its cash cost is estimated at $11,500/tonne. (Tin closed on Friday at $US20,250/tonne.)
CSD's presentation to the conference reminds us of the elephant country in which it is operating. The old Heberton tin field started in 1879, there were more than 2000 named mines operating there over a century, and production stopped in 1985 only because of the collapse of the tin price."
