The elevation of Tanya Plibersek to Cabinet today shows competence is clearly not a consideration for being promoted in the Gillard Government.
Shadow Minister for Families, Housing and Human Services Kevin Andrews today labeled the move a “disaster” which was “sure to backfire on the Government.”
“The Department of Human Services under Minister Plibersek has been an unmitigated disaster,” Mr Andrews said. “The quality of service delivery is at an all-time low, welfare fraud is out of control, and we’ve had damning reports from both the ANAO and Commonwealth Ombudsman condemning Centrelink and the Child Support Agency.”
“Tanya Plibersek has been completely ineffectual and thoroughly incompetent in her handling of this portfolio.”
Mr Andrews said Ms Plibersek’s elevation to Cabinet was another victory for the faceless men and women of the Labor Party.
“It’s clear that Julia Gillard remains singularly focused on rewarding her faceless factional backers,” Mr Andrews said.
“The only way to get ahead in the Julia Gillard’s Government, it seems, is to continue to sink knives into Kevin Rudd.”
