Harry left out in the cold, again

Former Speaker Harry Jenkins has not even been thrown a bone in the form of front bench position after falling on his sword to bolster the Government’s numbers in the House of Representative, said Christopher Pyne, Manager of Opposition Business today.

“Mr Jenkins was forced out and as several Labor MPs have subsequently said, ‘took one for the team’.

“You would have thought Julia Gillard would have acknowledged her debt to Harry but it seems the cupboard is depressingly bare for the former Speaker.

“Instead the Prime Minister has promoted the faceless men to shore up her position.

“If Harry was sitting on the cross benches he might’ve looked forward to a special deal like the rest of the cross bench,” Mr Pyne said.
