CARDIA BIOPLASTICS WINS CONTRACT TO SUPPLY CITY OF
NANJING HOUSEHOLDERS WITH CARDIA’S RENEWABLE
BIOHYBRID™ KITCHEN WASTE BAGS.
15 December 2011: The Board of Cardia Bioplastics Limited is pleased to announce that
its 100% owned China subsidiary based in Nanjing has been awarded a sales contract
valued at approximately A$260,000 for a 6 month trial to supply household kitchen waste
bags made from Cardia’s renewable Biohybrid™ products that contain less oil and have a
lower carbon footprint compared to conventional plastics.
The initial sales orders will be for a 6 month supply of 10 million Cardia kitchen waste bags
delivered by the Nanjing Government to 60,000 household in a defined radius in Nanjing.
If the contract is extended beyond the initial 6 month trial, it could grow to cover a larger
radius of householders where the population in Nanjing is currently around 7m people.
Mr. Jackie Chen, Cardia Director and Head of China Operations said he was delighted
with the outcome and is also working with Governments in other major provinces in China
to secure similar sales outcomes to that achieved in Nanjing.
“The Cardia range of renewable Biohybrid™ and certified compostable products also meet
the Chinese packaging regulations enacted in June 2008. Our Nanjing manufacturing
business is one of the few Chinese companies awarded with the prestigious China
Environmental Label.” Mr. Chen said.
Cardia has excellent Government relationships following on from Cardia being awarded
the Beijing Olympics and Para Olympics in 2008 Bioplastics supply contract as well as
being involved in the supply of Bioplastics at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo trade fair.
The potential to grow sales revenue from this business opportunity in China is high on
Cardia’s marketing agenda in 2012.
Cardia’s renewable Biohybrid™ Kitchen bag business for the China market is based on
Cardia’s proprietary Biohybrid™ technology using less oil.
