re: Ann: JB HI-FI NOW to change the way Austr... Not sure Tyler. There are other new products- i pads, i phones etc which have reasonable mark ups and appeal to
gen y and gen .com. I see plenty of buyers, both young and older, around still in the city store I check out, though it is true there are also plenty who seem to shop around for the bigger ticket items like LCD TVs, etc. There are always new buyers coming on stream when we talk about products which have appeal for a younger market- and of course, there is also JBH's online business, which is growing. We need to see the first half figures.

What bothers me tho, with regards to retail like this, and something which is not much discussed, is the impact of the down turn in the international education industry- down more than $2 billion last financial year, from $18 billion to 16 and still falling heavily- with students leaving in droves and inbound numbers down significantly (Chinese market down about 30-40%).Many of these are fairly wealthy kids who spend freely. The impact on retail in general from this free-fall must be fairly significant. Of course, students are still coming, but not at all in the numbers we had in 2007, 2008.
